Could use some help with a letter of intent for a Master's degree
Hello everyone, I am new to this site and wondered if some members here would be able to help me. I am currently in the midst of applying at a school in the northeastern U.S. and have written the letter of intent to send to the school, but feel unsure of its accuracy and if it can be sent in the way it is. Look forward to reading your replies. Thank you
To Whom It May Concern I am writing today to apply for the Master’s Degree in Teaching English as a Second Language for International Educators at …….. in ……, …… . The sole reason I am applying for this program, is because it is an ideal match for my aspirations to teach English as a Second Language to students on a multi-national basis. In addition, teaching in general is my goal, therefore the knowledge that I obtain from earning a TESOL for International Educators Master’s Degree from …… in ….., ….., will enable me to give back to individuals across all nationalities. My enduring interest in Teaching ESOL originates with my practical work experience overseas in South Korea, acting both as a teacher for various Korean schools as well as taking on tutoring endeavors. This acted as a stimulant that both facilitated and expanded my ability to help students get the most out of their classroom learning experience. While in South Korea, I was involved in many educational projects. The ones that I found stellar were online e-learning, curriculum planning, digital imaging, web site development and design, print design, classroom management, and newsletters. My previous academic background includes: a Bachelor of Arts degree in History from …., ….. and an Associate of Arts degree from ……, ……. . These educations contributed to the development of my appreciation for different cultures, and a better understanding of the interaction between native and international students in a multi-cultural exchange. Before I obtained my Bachelors of Arts degree, I experienced some family turmoil during my undergraduate studies, and dedicated too much time to campus activities and employment at a part-time job, which negatively affected my cumulative grade point average, which was slightly below a 3.0 upon graduation. Although I found it a struggle at times, I was able to maintain a B average in my major despite a vigorous course load. Since then I have gained over three years of work experience as an ESOL educator and curriculum designer in Seoul, South Korea, and maintained collaboration and partnerships with other ESOL teachers in South Korea. Furthermore, on top of my work experience, I also strove to solidify new learning opportunities and developed individualized educational plans with each student in my discipline. Following this educational experience, I was most recently employed as a teacher at ….. English School in Daegu, South Korea. This opportunity led me to a positive teaching experience where again, I was charged in creating classroom activities and lessons tailored to meet student needs based on the analysis of their learning styles. Additionally, along with my resume, I can affirm that I have developed strong analytical and presentation skills within my classrooms, and was successful in implementing creative teaching/learning opportunities for young children. While my academic background in history did not provide me with specific knowledge designed for a career as an educator, the dedication I gave as an educator to coordinated cross-cultural ESL provided me with the belief that education and its pursuits are where I belong. Hence, the Master’s in TESOL for International Educators fits perfectly with my aspirations of teaching ESL learners abroad. Moreover, I can identify with the program values, which will help me establish educational initiatives overseas, which can be implemented within a classroom environment. Having lived in South Korea for 3.5 years, I have positively adapted to its society, and within its educational system, I have attended one-on-one coaching sessions with established ESOL educators. This I feel, will put me on the cutting edge of ESL education in 2014. In conclusion, I feel that my practical work experience, along with my advanced level of qualifications, will positively assist me in becoming a successful graduate of the Master’s in TESOL for International Educators at …….. . I thank you in advance for your time and consideration. I look forward to hearing from you. Sincerely,
