"could use a little backup"

Hi, here's a sentence: "they are in danger and they could use a little backup". Does it mean that "they need backup"?

Thanks!

Yes, you've got the meaning. The structure is "one could use something". For example, if I'm in a spot and having trouble and need help, I can say to my partner: "I could use some help over here".
