Could "tomorrow" be changed into "the day after" in reported speech?

I wonder whether "tomorrow" in direct speech could be changed into "the day after" in reported speech. If not, then why is "yesterday" in direct speech" be changed into "the day before" in reported speech?
Please help me to make out the problem.
Thank you very much in advance

Hi,

How about "the next day"? For instance:

"Tomorrow I'll go to the library."
He said he would go to the library the next day.

(Not a native, so you'd better wait for one!

Yeah, I know that "the next/following day" is ok. What I need to know is whether "the day after" is alright too.
Anyway, thank you very much for your enthusiasm.

No, 'the day after' is not correct.
