Could 'standard amout' be a suitable synonym for 'average'?

Hi teachers,
Context:
The traditional family in Mexico was also big. One generation ago, the average Mexican woman had seven children. Today, she has an average of only 2.5 children.

Could 'standard amout' be a suitable synonym for 'average' in that context? If not would you suggest one?

Thanks in advance.

No, and I don't think so. Somebody had done some math. You can't have anything but an average when you get fractional children. But you could say she has two or three children.

Hi ennon,
Thank you for your reply. So, there is no synonym for that one in that case, is there?
