1) I would prefer "What I felt when they smeared it on my face was that toothpaste smell is better than that", otherwise one tends to initially read that you felt "toothpaste smell" (i.e. the smell of toothpaste). It still is not the greatest sentence ever written.

2) This is not correct and is not easy to understand. Do you simply mean "I felt the same as you"?

Actually, I notice now that this still potentially suffers from a similar problem, since "that toothpaste smell" can be understood as a phrase. P
