Dear Sir:
I am writing to apply for the Master's Degree program in Arts Management at (School’s name) under the xxxx Fellowship Program offered in (country’s name).
I graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Visual Arts) in August, 1999 from xxx University, (country’s name). My degree focused on many forms of visual expression. These included drawing, painting, sculpturing, Thai Traditional painting, art composition, ceramic and Woodcut. My art thesis was done in form of Installation Art, focused on my happy childhood memory. Furthermore, I took several courses in computer graphic, web design and flash action script after the completion of my degree.
I have a strong passion for arts. I learned how to draw and color since I was one: my dad who was an art teacher encouraged me to draw and put me in an art camp every summer. From 1980-1991, I had always been selected to enter the annual Elementary and Secondary School Art Competition and had won several awards in drawing, coloring and sculpturing. After I finished secondary school, I made a decision that I wanted to become an artist, I was fortunate enough to be accepted to College of Fine Arts, the best Art College in (country’s name). in 1992. On the year of graduation, I was awarded First Prize in Sculpture in the annual College of Arts Competition.
Arts Management is interesting to study because most of artists can produce a great piece of art, but they never seem to be able to cope with management as a big picture. Practice makes perfect, however management skill is difficult to be developed professionally without a proper way of studying. Despite the great design and creative work, the great management is behind the successful business. Therefore, I am determined to study Arts Management in order to fill up the big gap in the arts and design business.
Since graduation I have always involved in arts and creativity. The titles vary from trainee in creative and photo retouch department, graphic instructor, graphic designer, web designer, stage manager, marketing executive (promotional design involved) and senior graphic designer. Through my ten-year work experience, I have gained and developed new skills and techniques, but beneath the surface I am always aware of my lack of management skill which I believe is the key to successfully operate the team and the organization to the right direction.
My current job generally involves graphic and web design and development, never the less as a senior graphic designer, my responsibilities included associate with a client representative, improve efficiency and cost effectiveness of the production. I have gradually gained management skills by learning through my job; however there is a better way of learning the right way which is why I have chosen this program. In addition, I am a self-motivated, hard working and responsible person. I am eager to learn and I am excited by my decision to pursue my Master's degree.
In October I will begin a xxxx language course as it is my personal interest as well as to prepare myself for the 48 week stay in (country’s name). I believe it will make my communication easy to maintain good working relationships with local colleagues during the practice-based research and enable me to have a better understanding of the cultures.
With a solid foundation in arts management theory and research projects gained through in the Master's Degree program in Arts Management at (school’s name), I am confident that I will have the skills and knowledge that will help me meet my professional challenges.
Thank you in advance for your time and kind consideration of the selection for the admission. I look forward to hearing a positive response from you.
signatureSincerely yours,
