The existence of Togutil tribe began from the stranded Portuguese man at North Maluku, Indonesia. In its progress, these people lived from a place to another safer place while procreating. Their population was known taking place at the forest, south of North Halmahera to Wasilei forest at East Halmahera. They usually live on the river bank. Their house made of wood with sago palm leaves or woka leaves without any wall. They ate raw food or sometimes baked it with bamboo and drank water from the river. The physique of pure-bred Togutil people was just like Portuguese people. They were big, tall, with light complexion and pointed nose. The girls were beautiful with clear-grayish eyes. Their lifestyle was still relying on the nature. They ate fruits, tubers, young leaves tip, quarries and fish from the river. Their dependency to the nature made them live nomadic. They left to a new place after their stock of tubers, fruits and animals dwindling. This cycle was going on and on so that they were known as the owner of Halmahera forest, knowing that they were the first tribe who explored and settled in the forest. Togutil lifestyle that has changed after getting in touch with society can be seen in their ability to plant tubers, fruits, and perrenial plants so that they do not live nomadic anyore. They are also able to use farming tools and dressed properly.
