Could somebody explain this?

Hi, I have a question with regards to these:

Many people (plural) have a smartphone (singular).

Many people (plural) latinize their names (plural).

Some people (plural) spend their lives (plural) wastefully.

Could someone explain to me this discrepancy? Is 'have' as a verb an exception?

Thanks a lot.
