Could some provide feedback or correction to this composition?

Hi guys, I wrote a small composition about a news. (it is not my personal option, at all) just wanted to get some feedback or correction where applies.

Earlier this week, a barbaric act happened when a chemical attack was carried out in Syria, which subsequently has led to a few head of states to condemn those who are believed to be the authors of this outrage.

Currently, as this news has been spreading around the world, communications between some PM are taking place with the aim of finding eventually a proper solution, which is likely to be a war. Unfortunately, the problem becomes bigger as Russia is the main ally of the Syrian government led by Bashar al-Assad, which is suspected to be behind this chemical attack and will be supporting and defending them in the case of being attacked by foreign countries.

Even worse than that, are the cruel times that Syrian people are enduring for a few years now and that is unlikely to stop in a short term.
