Could not comprehend this sentence

Hello

I was going through a business case-study, where I found the following text -

Almost all of the respondents, when asked about themselves, described themselves with respect to the roles they play in the household and their relationship with each member of the family. Their identities were ingrained with their family.

My question is -

Is the sentence-in-bold correct, especially the usage of ingrained?

If so, what is meant by the sentence?

If not, what should be the correct sentence?

Thanks

Sam

Yes, 'ingrained' (= 'implanted or fixed deeply and firmly, as in the nature or mind') is good there. The sentence means that the respondents' descriptions of themselves always included their roles, their identities, in their families. They identify themselves primarily as family members; that relationship is fixed strongly in their minds.
