Could for Politeness

I know that 'could' can be used for "politeness" and I would like to see if you can feel any politeness in this sentence.

"I could get fired"

I just feel that the reason why the speaker uses 'could' is that he or she is not sure of it 100%. What do you think? Thank you a million!!
