Throughout human history, we have been plagued by various issues. Surprisingly, there has been almost a worldwide lack of fresh water. This essay will discuss what I believe are the problems caused by this issue and also its solutions.

Perhaps the main problem is that there is an increase in the incidence of waterborne diseases. As many people do not have access to clean water, they have turned to consuming contaminated water, leading to them developing diseases such as cholera and gastrointestinal tract infection, which are associated with intake of polluted water. A lot of Zambians experienced this last year. Another issue is that many countries now spend a large proportion of their revenue as well as a great deal of time in search of fresh water. As a result, those countries cannot focus on improving important areas such as healthcare and education, which may result in the development of those countries being hampered. The Spanish government, for instance, was not able to meet its target of building twelve new hospitals and schools last year because it spent most of its time and resources looking for fresh water.

There are some approaches which can be quite effective in addressing this challenge. The first is exploration of forests for fresh water. Forests are common sources of fresh water, so there is no doubt that taking this approach will lead to more sources of fresh water, such as lakes, being discovered. Making laws discouraging people from wasting water is another measure that can help to overcome this shortage. Farmers at times use much more clean water than what is needed to tend for their plants; establishing laws which penalize such acts will go a long way in reducing the shortage of clean water. Obviously, the less fresh water we waste, the more we have.

In conclusion, lack of fresh water has made waterborne diseases more common and reduced the time and revenue that many countries can devote to improving their healthcare and education. Searching forests for water and introducings laws that discourage water wastage are viable ways to deal with this shortage.
