Could anyone help me make this into a correctly written sonnet?

I am having a very hard time making this work as I suck at rhymes and syllables. My native language is not English so please excuse any poor grammar. Any help is very much appreciated!

My furry cat, you inspired me to write.
How I loved the way you purred, slept and played,
Invading my mind every day and through the night,
Always dreaming about the funny fights.

Let me compare you to a playful sky,
You are more blue, funny and even more high.
Hot droughts dried the warm sleep of July,
And summertime has yet to gratify.

Yet how did I love you? Let me count the ways.
I loved your tail, legs and paws.
Thinking of your hairy tail fills my days.
My love for you was the only way.

Now I must away with a broken heart,
Understand my heavy words whilst we're apart.
