Could anyone comment on this sentence...tq

Having to travel out of our comfort zones hundreds of miles away from home and experiencing life on the island, there was nothing else that we could ask for a vacation.

Both gerund clauses are kind of hanging since they don’t have a verb and an object. To connect with the main clause, the sentence should be rephrased as follows: Besides having to travel out of our comfort zones hundreds of miles away from home and experiencing life on the island, there was nothing else that we could ask for in a vacation.

No, not in this case since it is understood that “we” were “having to snorkel for more than 3 hours.”
