Could

Hi,

Why is COULD used in the following dialogues?

Jon: Are you musician?

Sara: Yes, I COULD play something for you. I have a test later. I should practice.

Jon: No

Sara: You want some money? I have only few dollars with me. We COULD go to ATM.

Jon: I do not need your money.

Sara: Please, do not kill me.What do you want? I will do whatever you want. But you do not need the gun.

Are these COULDS showing to suggestion, possibility or condition? Please, explain to me.

Thank you

MFarooq I COULD play something for you. I would be able to play something for you if you want me to do that. Let me offer you this possibility.

  • We have that option available to us, so we would be able to do that if that seems a good suggestion to you.

Yes, when you say "I could" followed by something that you are offering to do. It's both an offer and a suggestion.

I could help you wrap those packages.
I could do some shopping for you if you're not feeling well.
I could ask my boss if he has a job opening f
