Could

Hi,
Why COULD is used in the following dialogues?

Ann: I do not like it.

Ruth: What?

Ann: The stag party. I know that they always have them but I heard that some of them, a girl really does come out of the cake.

Ruth: Ann it is all in fun. What COULD happen? What COULD she do?

Ann: I do not know. I would just feel a lot more secure tonight if I were that girl.

Are these Coulds showing to conditional 2?
                         OR
She is talking about possibility?
                        OR
She is asking questions politely?

Please, explain to me as I am confusing among these three?

Thank you

Hi Sir,
I am writing a couple of dialogues between Ann and Marcy. I am confusing about the last dialogue which is said by Ann.
I think. She should have used second conditional instead of third. So, the dialogue should have been like that " They could be with us while you were picketing, they could be right along with us".

Is this the common mistake that normally made by native sp

I do not really understand your question, but here are the two possibilities with their time frames. The dialogue does not reveal which time frame is meant.

Ann: They could have been with us today while you were picketing, they could have been right along with us. = They have finished picketing; it happened earlier today.

They could be with us today while you are picke

Actually, Ann is talking about future what I understand with the help of context but she is using conditional three instead of using conditional two. That is why, I think that she should say "They could be with us while you were picketing, they could be right along with us. Please, let me know.

Thank you

Hi Sir,

I would like to know in what sense Ann and Adam used word COULD?

Adam: I were you, I would go down to that office. And I start punching out a follow up article on the article you have already written on pollution. If you are fast enough and as good enough, we just might be able to get it into this week's edition.

Ann: Oh,Mr. Adam I could kiss you.
