Hi everyone,

Why is "COULD" used in the following dialogues?

A: Well, I guess. We have got everything. Edith is a wonderful packer.

B: Thank you Ann.

C: You are welcome and I am sure you will be to find out nice hotel somewhere.

A: Well, I am not so sure about that.

D: Well, your worries are over because I have found out a nice place for you. You can stay at my place.

B: We COULD NOT do that.

D: Well, why not? I am leaving on 5 plan and you can move in right now.

B: We really COULD NOT accept that.

D: Ann, can you tell them it is perferctly alright!

A: Well, look at this way,Edith, we will be helping him out. You can take of his house while he is out. Why you COULD dust and sweep.

D: Oh, wait I COULD NOT let her do that.

A: Well, you insist us then we are going to stay. Right honey!

So far, I know the five usage of "COULD"

1- Past tense of "CAN"
2- Habitual action in the past.
3- Possibility
4- Suggestion
5- Request

But the reason you gave to me. It came into my knowledge first time.
