And we generally discourage people from using chatroom or text-messaging shorthand such as 'u' and 'ur' for 'you' and 'your'. Often times when people make a mistake, we give it up to a typographical error

Cost is indeed an irregular verb. You are right so say "It cost me this much". However, when your friends say costed.... It means they set a price for something.For example, if they were trying to figure out the expenses on a research expedition, they would say: "We costed the expedition and we obtained a total of $14,000"

I know that nowadays people speak English worse than ever, especially in the US and Canada, where by the way I happen to be from. However, I have heard people say costed and I remember once I was at a store and there was an old lady and she was talking about her bag and she said "..but I putted it there". I myself never said such a thing, maybe because I went to a very good school, lol just kiddi

Actually, according to Merriam-Webster, "costed" does exist. I am just uncertain as to whether it is grammatically correct.

"Casted" is a non-word, for now. But who knows, it might be acceptable in the future.

Case in point: Quit

Nowadays, it's acceptable to say "quitted":
I quitted my job last week.

I'm no pedant but you won't catch me saying "quitted". [H]
