'cosmetics market' and 'cosmetic market'

Dear teachers,

the cosmetics market

the cosmetic market

(1) Are both okay just as 'the cosmetics industry' and 'the cosmetic industry'?

(2) When we use cosmetics as a noun, is it singular or plural under the following context?

"The company with that original technology has drawn much attention within the cosmetics market.

But to that company, cosmetics is just the first step."

Thanks and best regards,

David Kim
