Corresponding?

Hi, everyone.

Could you tell me whether the sentence is correct?

Divided into groups of two, first student will write a word on the whiteboard; the second will write the corresponding rhyming word in front of it.

Thanks!

That isn't quite right. Assuming future tense "will" is actually what you want, you can say: The students will be divided into pairs. Within each pair, the first student will write a word on the whiteboard, and the second will write the corresponding rhyming word in front of it.

  • "the corresponding rhyming word" implies that the second student is choosing a word from a predetermined list, rather than thinking of a rhyme themselves.
  • If they are thinking of a rhyme themselves, say "a rhyming word".
