Greetings Feebs and Teo,

6. At that moment, the spectators .....

Feebs, with respect to one of your emendations--Would you consider 'came out to the field' uncommon and not natural?
Does it make that much of a difference whether I use 'to' or 'onto' in that context?

Thanks in advance,

The players came onto the field is how I would normally expect to hear this. To come to the field implies that they have arrived at the field, whereas to come onto the field tell you that the teams are on the field ready to play.

Just to confuse you more, I would prefer "pitch" to field" for football [soccer].
