Both of them fell down / fell onto / to the floor. The hot soup was dropped from the boy's hands onto / to the floor. The boy cried loudly because his hand was scalded by the hot soup. His whole arm looked red and painful. John quickly got up and apologised to the boy.
Soon, the recess bell rang. The boy's arm was bandaged with gauze. John felt sorry and (had) learnt a lesson not to race in the canteen again.
