Hi,

She bought a tray of eggs from the grocery shop.

I've never heard 'tray'. I say 'carton'.

The following is what I've found. It would appear that 'a tray of eggs' is fine.

Search for: a tray of eggs. Search all of the BBC

We had meals with chicken, and meat and fish and plenty of eggs." A tray of eggs costs almost £1 - a civil servant earns about £3 a month.

I expect it depends on the location of the grocer's shop.

In the UK, for instance, you would buy eggs in a carton (or an "eggbox"); or if you were to buy loose eggs, e.g. from a farm shop, it's quite possible that the eggs would be displayed in a recessed tray (not a flat-bottomed tray).

However, even if the eggs were displayed in a tray, you would probably not buy them
