Correction of two sentences

"Let me begin by saying that the first and arguably the most important point is reliability. If we are in desperate need of help or a counsel, then we stand a good chance of being offered a hand by our family members since sometimes it may happen that our friends would turn their backs on us the moment we demand most their help."

Thanks in advance.
