Dear Mrs Brown,

I would like to apologize you for not writing my essay yet. I was ill for the last 2 weeks. I was in the hospital and I couldn't write it. I’m well aware that we are supposed to send you our essay for tomorrow but I’m afraid I won’t have it. Is it possible to bring the project to you on Tuesday ?

We are supposed to send you our essay tomorrow. OK, but 'tomorrow' is not the same as 'by tomorrow'.
