Hey everybody!
I would be very grateful if you could read over my letter of motivation and tell me what I should change or correct. Thank you so much for your time!
PS: It is about an internship at an Embassy in Washington D.C..
Dear Sir or Madam:
I am writing to apply for an internship position at the Political Department of the Embassy of ... in Washington, D.C. in August and September 2012.
Currently, I am studying Political Science and History at the University of .... I will graduate in fall 2012 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in both disciplines of study. After taking various courses in diplomacy, ranging from political theory and international relations to historical backgrounds and policy studies, I want to apply what I have learned in practice. I am convinced that an internship at the ... Embassy in Washington, D.C. provides me a perfect opportunity to do so.
To widen my horizon about the mechanisms and principles underlying the international political arena and the global order, I will take several courses in economics and law during the upcoming winter semester. I am confident that my outstanding academic record based upon a challenging curriculum, my wide-ranging knowledge and the practical experience of an internship at the Embassy of ... in Washington, D.C will help me to achieve my long term goal: to work for an international organization.
I have always been fascinated by the complexity of international relations and politics. I believe that my studies have enabled me to understand and appreciate the fundamental processes of the international scene. Apart from these studies my active memberships in the United Nations Youth and Student Association of ... (UNYSA-...) and the Academic Forum for Foreign Affairs (AFA) have paid well to improve my skills concerning diplomacy and international relations.
In addition to my university studies I will receive training to become a tour guide this fall. Traveling and visiting foreign places has always been a passion of mine. As a tour guide I will be able to share my fascination for other countries with other people. Furthermore it is an opportunity to live out my organizational talent, which I consider as equally helpful for my work as an intern at the ... Embassy in Washington D.C..
It is my settled conviction that it is very important to know several languages if you want to work in the international arena. Hence I decided to attend Spanish and French classes in spring. Moreover I speak English and German fluently, at school I had the chance to learn Italian for six years. Knowing these languages is for sure an advantage to attend briefings other embassies are giving, one of the duties that an intern has to manage during his practical training.
Since I had the privilege to live in the United States between 1991 and 1993, including the attendance of kindergarten in Niagara Falls, NY in 1992, I have been very enthusiastic about the USA as a country and a whole way of life. Ever since I can remember it has been a dream of mine to work and live in this dynamic state sometime in the future. Several trips to different parts of the nation over the last couple of years have strengthened my desire to achieve that aim.
An internship at an ... Embassy abroad is a once-in-a-lifetime chance to broaden my mind on my way to achieve my lifetime goal, being part of an international organization soon after graduation. To get the occasion to serve an ... diplomatic mission as a volunteer for two months in Washington D.C., the capital of a country I fell in love with during my childhood, is moreover an experience I want to seize implicitly.
I firmly believe that no education is complete without experience. The position as an intern at the ... Embassy in Washington D.C. would provide me with the ideal opportunity to assist the ... Mission in the US and expand my knowledge, skills and working experience in the field of international relations. As an ambitious, hard-working and affable person I am convinced that I am an appropriate candidate for the internship and that my motivation and enthusiasm will make me an extraordinary asset to the ... Embassy in the capital of the United States of America.
Thank you so much for your time and consideration and I look forward to your acceptance of my application.
Sincerely,
