Underground Cistern have been through various restorations to the present day. The first restoration of the Cistern, which was restored two times during Ottoman times, was fulliled by Architect Memet Aga of Kayseri in the term of Ahmet III. (1723) Second massive restoration of the Cistern hit upon the term of Sultan Abdulhamit II (1876-1909). At the Turkish Republic Period, the Cistern underwent restorations and reparations by Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality many times. Lastly, after extensive maintaneces and cleanings fullfilled between the years 1985- promenade platform was done and the Cistern was opened to visitors.



Along being a museum, this enigmatic site which is so to speak an integrated part to the programs of visiting, is a home for national and international cultural activities. This forest of columns that contributes much more flavour to the activities in terms of accoustic, offers unforgettable moments to its visitors.
