Hi

Ok, I get it, but now I have another question.

2 and 4 (indirect questions, I suppose) are incorrect because I wrote: "what are" and "what is," however, 5 is correct although I wrote "what is"????

Why not: I do not know what so strange about it is.

however, I guess, I could write: Tell me: what are these people doing? I wonder: what is she saying?

Hi,

however, I guess, I could write: Tell me: what are these people doing? I wonder: what is she saying?

Be careful with your punctuation.

However, I guess I could write, "Tell me, what are these people doing?" Yes.

I wonder, "What is she saying?" Yes.

HI again,

4. I wonder what is she saying No
5. I do not know what is so strange about it OK

Consider how these uses of 'what' are different.
In #4, 'what' is the object of the subordinate clause. (She is saying what?)
In #5, 'what' is the subject of the subordinate clause.

Best wishes, Clive
