Correct verb

How should the follow ? be phrased..."what did you say your name was?" or "what did you say your name is?"

I always say the first. It is always correct to backshift. Both are correct.

How should the follow ? be phrased..."what did you say your name was?" or "what did you say your name is?"

Here's the general idea.

If the remark was made 10 years ago, say 'was'. If it was 10 seconds ago, say 'is', but 'was' would also be OK.
