Correct use of tenses

Hello guys...I am writing here because I was watching a video on youtube, and I heard a sentence that made me think a little bit. In the video, the great Alice Cooper said that, whenever he meets Keith Richards, the latter taunts him about his sobriety, saying: ''Vinnie, Vinnie, Vinnie (which is Alice Copper's real name), how long has it been since you 've had a drink?'' Is it correct to use the present perfect in the second part of the above question? I would say: how long has it been since you had a drink...

Thank you very much...in advance
