Correct use of sub-clause

HiI need a bit of help with the following sentence. Which of the three versions below is the more correct and why?1. In the age of customer power, marketing is therefore an essentialpart of business strategy.2. In the age of customer power marketing is therefore an essentialpart of business strategy.3. I would find 1 and 2 acceptable but not 3 because "therefore" is an integral part of the sentence referring back to some earlier argument. If it refers to "sustomer power" I'd omit it completely because it's superfluous.
Why? Longer time phrases at the beginning of a sentence can be delimited by a comma, but this isn't strictly necessary.
BTW "In the age of customer power" isn't a sub-clause because a clause requires a verb. It's an adverbial phrase.
