Correct Use of "Can I"

Hi,

I want to confirm the views/queries asked by my colleagues.

Is the below sentences correctly convey the meaning OR Please suggest alternate sentence if you feel.

“Can I confirm that the locations of the codes returned in the message are exactly as you have depicted in your earlier email.”

Can I confirm that the locations of the codes returned in the message are exactly as you have depicted in your earlier email ? This is fine among close acquaintances; ' could ' is more polite.

Thanks Mister Micawber.

Is it a correct use of Can I/Could U?

I thought Can is used to take a permission to do some activity, which is not the case here.

'Can' is used both for ability (I can ski) and for familiar request/permission (Can you open the window? Can I open the window?).

Your case is indeed in the shape of a request for permission (Can I confirm? = Will you let/help me confirm?). If that is not what you intended, then your sentence should be revised.
