Correct use of 3rd conditional

Hi all

I've seen this sentence in an English grammar dealing with the 3rd conditional, which doesn't sound quite right for me:

"If my mother had been alive, she would have been 80 next year"

resolidoesn't sound quite right
No, it's not quite right, but you could probably "get away with it". (I trust you understand that idiom.)
resoliIf my mother had been alive, she would have been 80 LAST year?
If my mother were alive, she would be 80 NEXT year
These are more reasonable.

I do, thanks a million, CalifJim, other English-speaking people have told me it's correct and it even appears in grammars but I'd never seen it before
