Correct use and punctuation

I'm curious to know whether a sentence like the following is appropriate, and I would like to know whether I have used correct punctuation in my writing of it. Thank you for your help.


Following our annual Staff and Volunteer Summer retreat, an event designated as a time to evaluate current programming goals and to implement new ideas, our Programming Directors and Executive Staff will begin the process of vetting volunteers and hiring new Program Managers.
