Correct usage of hyphen

I have a part of my maths assignment where I say "x and y-intercepts". I am referring to the x-intercept and the y-intercept. Would I write this "x- and y-intercepts" (with the hyphen after x) or "x and y-intercepts" (without the hyphen after x). I use the Australian/British English btw.
