Correct usage of grammar in future tense

Hi all , First of all ,I am not a native speaker so you might find my question a bit silly .Anyways, question is as below :
Which one is correct of two :
A) this would reduce air pollution and possibly improve well-being of the population if they "did" adopt a more active lifestyle .
or
B)this would reduce air pollution and possibly improve well-being of the population if they "do" adopt a more active lifestyle .

*this in above statement can be taken as any possible measure such as "greater investment in public transport"

A quick response with detail explanation would be much appreciated.

(Use "it" instead of "this" in your sentences.)
