Correct usage in these instances.

With his wife Lara dying of cancer, Dr. David Andrade, comes up with a way to save her life.
With his wife Lara dying of cancer/comes up with a way to save her life.

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0872185/ (source) opening description.

He had a long term relationship with partner, Sarah, with the two meeting at work.
He had a long term relationship with partner/with the two meeting at work.

Now you can start the first sentence with the name and drop the second comma. But the writer has sort of used it as a parenthentical/nonessential element and the same usage in the other example. Are both examples wrong? I've seen this usage quite frequently.

They are both clear and make sense but the foundations of the sentences are loose, in the sense that if the information is non-essential the sentence should at least work without them. I'd be inclined to write them this way:

He had a long-term relationship with partner, Sarah. The two met at work.
