Correct to say?

Hi. Please help me answer these questions correctly. Is the pronoun "it" correct in no. 1?

A: Why should we recycle paper?
B: Because it is good for the earth.

Also, let's say there is a trash can that contains, among other things, some worksheets and some blank sheets that are torn off on the side, and some blank sheets crumpled up. Now, is this correct for a teacher to say possibly to students? Is the word "paper" correct? Thank you in advance for your help.

"You shouldn't throw away paper."

Yes. The phrasal verb "throw away" is separable. I would write this:

"You shouldn't throw (any) paper away."
You should recycle it.
