Correct this sentence please

Hello

The sentence is

Out of a curiosity, I went to the Bible I looked up Genesis 1, Verse 31, it says: "....."

Is it correct to say' I went to the bible' also is it correct to say the verse says... or maybe

I looked up Genesis 1, Verse 31, it was written "....."

Out of curiosity , I went to the Bible and (I) looked up Genesis 1, v erse 31 . " "reads" feels a bit more formal than "says". "it was written" is possible, but it's less common and not very conversational.
