Here is a test question. I got the wrong answer. Which answer is correct?

1. Everyone in the bank-including the manager and the tellers, ran to the door when the fire alarm rang.

Well, I copied and pasted directly from the online test, so I am not responsible for the lack of space on either side of the dashes, but thank you for letting me know it shoulb be there.

I do not understand the use of either hyphen in this sentence. Had I composed the sentence myself, I would not have used hyphens. Please explain why they did.

They are dashes, not hyphens.
