The True Moral Lesson Of Mice and Men
As a person do you think in real life that friendship is one of the most important moral lessons that life can offer? Well I believe so. John Steinbeck the author of the famous classic Of Mice and Men. In this book there are many moral lessons we can learn from and apply to our daily lives such as respect elders, don't be a racist, etc... But the main moral lesson that stood out was friendship.
The value and importance of friendship is mentioned countless of times in the book Of Mice and Men. In the beginning of the book for example, George and Lennie had just walked over 4 miles from where the bus dropped them off at Soledad and so they sat down by a green, slimy pond. George took out a few cans of beans out of his bindle to make supper. Soon after they began to talk. George says "with us it ain't like that. We got a future; we got someone to talk to and gives a damn about us."(Steinbeck 14) As George stated, we as readers can point out the strong bond of friendship between Lennie and George.
Another inview of this moral lesson of friendship is when Crooks and Lennie are having time to talk one on one. They are in Crook's bunk house. While they are talking Crooks says "I didn't mean to scare you. He'll come back. I was talking about myself. A guy sets along out here at night, maybe readin' books or thinkin', hes got no one to help him. He's alone."(Steinbeck 73) From a readers perspective Crooks is a good example of a person without friends and how alone he feels. This is why having friends is a good thing and a good moral lesson.
In this book we see many lessons that can be learned but one that stands out the most is friendship. Many people usually end up breaking down badly if something happened but usually a friend is there to help. Now picture yourself with no friends and you're in a bad situation that really takes a toll on your life. How would you feel? Very bad and alone I shall assume. This moral lesson can help friendships grow stronger and to help those who don't have any friends to either open up to people or for those to help people without any friends.
