Correct tense: [was or is] ever

I have made up the examples below.

(1) (Suppose that you are holding a picture of a video game) You said to your friend, "This video game is/was the first one ever made."

(2) What is/was the first stamp ever made?"

My non-native English speaking friends think "is" is correct for (1) because you are looking and pointing at the picture of the game. They think "was" is correct for (2) because you don't have a picture of it in front of you.

I am not sure if my friends are correct. Please help me. Thank you.

For (1), you could use either, but I'd probably use was . For (2), I would certainly use was .
