I have made up the sentences below.
(1) Today is the fifth day I have cleaned the streets. I need to clean for two more days to receive a certifcate of appreciation.
(2) Today is the fifth day I'm cleaning the streets. I need to clean for two more days to receive a certifcate of appreciation.
My non-native English speaking friends think both tenses are possible depending when you say that. If it's after your cleaning, you say (1). If it's before your cleaning, you say (2).
What is your opinion? Thank you very much.
