Correct sentences?

Hi.

Is the sentence below correct? I think it is. Then what is the grammatical function of the word "then"? It might not be it but it looks like it functions as a sort of conjunction (possibly a subordinate conjunction or possibly a coordinate conjunction?) below.

She thanked them, then said good bye.

Also, how about this sentence? Do you think the following sentence is correct?

A kid pulled the cord, the toy car pulled in and made a strange sound.

'then' can be compared to 'and' in your example, save that it is never a conjunction. Here, it functions as an adverbial (listing enumerative conjunct).
