Correct sentence structure

A french friend stated to his boss “Thanks to have reported this problem.” and his boss told him he was totally wrong with his English sentence. Is this sentence structure and tense correct?

That's something that one might say on some later occasion.

eg I report the problem on Monday.



On Friday, you say "Thanks for having reported this problem".

thanks to + verb is not grammatical in English. (I'm not even sure that it's grammatical in French. merci+ infinitive ?
