correct sentence in Past Perfect tense ?

Can some one explain me difference below two sentences

1) When I reached the station, Train had left.
2) As soon as I reached the station, train had left.

does first sentence convey meaning like " I reached the station and caught the train" ?

1) When I reached the station, the train had left.-- This is fine. You did not catch the train; it was already gone.
2) As soon as / When I reached the station, the train left. -- This is fine. If you were quick, you caught the train.

Only the first sentence can use past perfect.
