I'm struggling to distinguish the difference between the to from preposition and infinitive marker.

"I'm at a loss to understand your explanation"

In a simpler grammar...Is the to in it actually saying, "Because I was at a loss, it gives me the result that I couldn't understand your explanation" ?

Thank you
