Correct Sentence

1. You wouldn't believe if I told you.
2. You won't believe if I tell you.
What is the difference between these two sentences. And in the first sentence why it isn't 'You wouldn't believe if I tell you

The telling (and consequently the believing) is less likely with the past tense than with the present tense. It wouldn't make any sense to mix those tenses together.
