Correct sentence

As he was in Wales, but he likes the city a lot and would like to stay there for at least another two years as he puts it, until his two children will be grown up a bit.

I don't understand ... another two years as he puts it, ... How else would he put it?
Maybe as he puts it relates to what follows?
