Correct sentence ?

1. Rahim said that he was going to the library to borrow some books the next day.

2. Rahim said that he will go to the library to borrow some books the next day.

Hi,

please advise which is the correct answer? was going or will go?

In my opinion, "was going" and "would go" are correct. "Will go" is incorrect.

If what he said was, "I will go to the library to borrow some books tomorrow," and you use "said" in the past tense, you must backshift the "will go."
